DMZ Vietnam (The Vietnamese demilitarized zone) located at the 17th parallel in Quang Tri Province and was erected by a mutual agreement known as the Geneva Agreement. Visit DMZ Vietnam is to delve deep into the history, testament to my country resilience and hope for peace.
Despite its name, the DMZ was anything but demilitarized during the war. It became a battleground where thousands of soldiers and civilians lost their lives. Today, many visitors are drawn to the DMZ for its historical significance, but what they find is not just a stark reminder of the past…
The DMZ, Quang Tri was the main battlefield, one of the most intensively and fiercely bombed areas in the Vietnam War history. It left a barren desert created by hundreds of thousands of tons of high explosives, estimated to be the equivalent of seven Hiroshima atom bombs, as well as phosphorous, napalm, and herbicide.
The Quang Tri province preserves many remains from the anti-American resistance war such as the Truong Son trails, Quang Tri Old Citadel, Vinh Moc Tunnels, Truong Son National Cemetery, Khe Sanh Combat Base, Hien Luong Bridge, and Ben Hai River.

Itinerary to visit DMZ Vietnam from Hue
At 7:30 a.m: our car and experienced driver will pick you up at your hotel/stay in Hue City and transfer you to the Demilitarized Zone in Quang Tri province.
Around 9:00 a.m.: We will stop to visit La Vang Holy Land. La Vang Church is a shrine located in Hai Lang district, Quang Tri province, an important place of pilgrimage for Catholics in Vietnam. The Christians trust that Mary appeared in this area in 1978 to bless and help the people here and a grand church was erected near the three banyan trees.
In this tour, on Highway 9, you have a chance to admire Rock Pile Hill. The Rockpile Hill was one of the US military bases and was used as a watchtower to observe the military activities of the Vietnam People’s Army in the demilitarized zone from 1966 to 1968. We can not visit, we just stop to see and capture photos.
After that, we will visit Dakrong Bridge is midway along Highway 9, and is the starting point of Highway 15, one of the main branches of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, which leads south to the A Shau Valley and the infamous “Hamburger Hill”. Though not entirely legitimate, there is a monument commemorating it as a point on the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
Keep doing, we will explore the Khe Sanh combat base, a huge Marine base camp attacked by massive forces of the North Vietnamese Army in 1968.
We will have a lovely lunch at a local food restaurant on Highway 1 in Dong Ha town.
At about 14:00: to visit the relic cluster of Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River. History witnesses that was the only true demarcation line between the North and South of Vietnam during the Geneva Agreement. The bridge once painted in two different colors to signify the divide, remains a poignant reminder of the country’s painful past.
15:00: We will explore Vinh Moc tunnels, a famous underground village constructed to avoid bombardments during the American War (from 1965 to 1966). The complex includes all kinds of wells, kitchens, meeting rooms, family rooms and clinics for healthcare.
At about 16:30: finish the DMZ tour Vietnam, we will come back to your hotel in Hue city around 20:00.
